Jordy van den Nieuwendijk

Biography

Jordy van den Nieuwendijk1 was born in 1985. He studied illustration at the Graphic Lyceum in Rotterdam2, followed by graphic design studies at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague3 from 2007 until 2011. Jordy van den Nieuwendijk lives and works in The Hague.

The last thing van den Nieuwendijk wants is to give his audience too hard of a time. One shouldn’t have to think about meaning and purpose of his works, but just have fun looking at them. He makes this possible by using simple colouring, primarily by using the basic colors and a clear drawing style, carried out in crayon, wax crayon, acrylic paint or digital. Also with regards to content van den Nieuwendijk stays true to himself and portrays things, one can connect to easily: people, plants, animals, ornaments. Always with the same easiness and aura of happiness and fun, that all his works convey.

His artworks were not only exhibited throughout the world, but also many brands and magazines noticed his imaginative world, such as the VOGUE,4 Lacoste, the Süddeutsche Zeitung or the New York Times. Since 2014 he also teaches drawing class at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
