Olimpia Zagnoli

Olimpia Zagnoli1 was born in Reggio Emilia in 1984 and studied illustration at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan.2 She lives and works in Milan.

Zagnolis style is blatant and intensive. She uses strong colours, which she arranges in big shapes. Her works do not cause their impact through detailed elaboration of the painted matters, but through sharp contrast and clear lines. Also due to the two-dimensionality, which she always stays true to, her works resemble the medium of the early poster or the art of paper cutting. Contentwise her works depict concrete matters and mostly shows people in different situations, which formally are often executed in abstract manner.

Zagnolis illustrations found favour already internationally and were used, amongst others, the Taschen Verlag, Google, Rolling Stone Magazine or The New Yorker. Aside from illustrations on paper, Zagnoli recently ventures into the moving pictures and creates music videos, e.g. for the band Green Like July.3
